Problem with invoicing sales order

Hello everyone,
I encountered an error while trying to create an invoice from a sales order. The error message said: /There is nothing to post because the document does not contain a quantity or amount./ 
I checked all the items in my sales order and they all had a quantity. So I was unsure what the problem was. However, I was able to create an invoice by selecting the /Invoice and Ship/ option. 
Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this issue?

    Are the items on your sales order shipped? You can only invoice if the items are first shipped.

    Hi,
     
    For Invoicing a Sales order, you will have to Ship the items first.
     
    Based on your location and warehousing setup you will have to either ship from sales order or create and post warehouse shipment.
     
    Once Items are shipped you will see qty shipped column will be filled it and at that time you can create an invoice and post it.

    Thank you for your response. The way I understood was that the shipment would occur as the final phase of the sale and invoices should be issued before that.
