AX 2012 R3 vs GP 2013 R2

Hello again!

Is there any documentation out there that lists the differences between AX and GP?  I need to find out what the major differences are as well as why a customer would choose one over the other.  Any help would be most appreciated!  Thank you!

I am not sure if there is a 2013 version of this but this might be a good place to start.

AX and GP are extremely different animals.  Whereas GP is more suited for small-mid sized businesses, AX is targeted more toward the SAP-Oracle market.  AX complexity in implementation, configuration, support, and overall cost is orders of magnitude greater than GP.  AX is very strong in its logistics, WMS, transportation, and manufacturing modules with capability GP could never hope to achieve without multiple bolt-on ISV products.  On the other hand, I find its core financial features not quite up to par with GP.  GP was developed as an accounting package with distribution, manufacturing, project accounting, etc., added as the market dictated.

AX was developed from the ground up as a logistics & manufacturing package with accounting & other functionality added as the market dictated.  Both apps reflect their foundations in capability.

I would start by analyzing what features and capability you need and then investigate both apps to see where the gaps are the greatest, while keeping in mind budget.  A good guideline for budget might be to think of GP in terms of how many 10's of thousands you have to spend and AX in terms of how many 100's of thousands you have to work with.  This is an oversimplification because some complex GP projects can exceed the cost of a simple AX project but that would be the exception rather than the rule.

    Hope this helps,
