When creating Global email template, can only see "User" record type in Insert/Update

Hello:

I have Sys Admin rights / Read-Write Access mode to CRM, and am trying to create some global templates for our teams; however, when I create a Global template, I can only see "User" record type in Insert/Update.

    So the global template is more or less a really generic template; no data fields, correct?

    That should be correct. A global template isn't linked to a specific record type like Account or Contact to those fields wouldn't be available.
