Windows server update

Hello,

At my company, we have Business Central version 16.19 installed on a Windows Server 2016. My question is, would it still work if we upgrade to Windows Server 2025? The official documentation lists Windows Server 2016 and Windows Server 2019, but perhaps it would also work on newer versions, and the documentation might not be up to date.

Regards.

    Hi,

If you want a newer OS:
    • Windows Server 2022 → upgrade BC to v20+ (that release explicitly supports WS 2022).
    • Windows Server 2025 → upgrade BC to v26 (2025 wave 1), which lists WS 2025 for server/web components.
Could it “run” anyway? Maybe—but it would be unsupported (and Microsoft support can refuse tickets). Best practice: keep BC 16 on 2016/2019, or plan an app upgrade first, then move the OS.

As far as I know, it can run, but Microsoft does not provide any support for this system.
However, BC16 has been out of support for a long time, so there's nothing you can do if you can't use it. Please upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible.

    Thanks.

    Hello,

While BC 16.19 may technically run on Windows Server 2025, it is not officially supported by Microsoft. Compatibility isn’t guaranteed, and you may face issues with components like IIS, .NET runtime, or the Business Central service tier.

    Regards,
    Oussama
