Problem with CRM's default reports

ReportReport

Hi,

I'm facing issues with CRM's default reports : when I launch them (from the CRM itself, as well as from the report server page), I get a message saying there's a problem with the DataSet. I then got to the report server page, and downloaded the report (.rdl) being discussed => it refers to a default DataSource (AdventureWorksCycle_MSRCM), not corresponding to our database, and of course not present.

I then tried to replace all the wrong references for DataSource and DataSets in the .rdl, re-uploaded it to the report server ; but the issue is still there.

Does anyone have any idea about where to change things to make these reports work ?

 Thanks.

    Hi Olivier,

When you install CRM reports, it automatically creates a DSN called "MSCRM_Datasource" which is used as the Data source for running the reports. So the report having the datasource set to Adventureworks is certainly not the issue. You can count that off.

The error "problem with Dataset" indicates that it was unable to retrieve the records based on the query provided. As you say to get this for every existing report, you may want to check the Datasource in SRS and make sure the users have all the permissions.

Which report are you trying to run?

Hi Sam, thanks for reply :)

I checked the security, my user account is member of local admins group, so I don't have any issue in accessing the database. I confirmed that in accessing the whole database schema with SQL Server Management Studio, with the same account.

Actually the report I'm trying to run is the default Activities report.

About the DataSource : no datasource has been created on the report server. Every report is configured with an independent datasource. BUT : we also have got a development server, on which the default reports are working correctly, and which is configured the same way (no general datasource, but an independent datasource for every report).

I tried to create a datasource with the details you gave me but if didn't solve the issue.

The error I get is (translated from french) :

An error occured during client rendering.

    • An error occured during the report's treatment.
      • Request execution failure for dataset 'DSActivity'.
        • String or binary datas will be truncated. Instruction was stopped.

    King regards.

    Hi Olvier,

You can check with the Sqldataconnecter.exe and you can find this exe in the CRM setup files.

As far the error is concern “String or binary datas will be truncated. Instruction was stopped.” is occurred when your report parameter or any variable expect data with length VARCHAR(20) but you have given more than this length then this error is occurred. Hence you can check your variables length in your dataset "DSActivity" or any procedure/function used in this dataset.

    Thanks!

    Hi Sam, thanks again !

I'll check this out. I won't be able to do that now since I'm out for a couple of days but I'll post here and close the post when I get the trick.

     Regards,

     Olivier
