Field security profiles, belonging teams and solution import

(0) ShareShare

In my original organization, I have a solution with Field security profiles included

Field security profiles have teams added to them.

I created another organization and imported teams from my original organization.

Now they exist under same names in this new organization.

When I export the solution and then try to import it into new organization,

field security profiles are imported, but teams are not linked to security profiles.

I've also looked  solution's "customizations.xml" file to see if information exists in there

about teams belonging to field security profiles. I don't see anything.

I have 12  field security profiles defined.

What is the fastest way to add teams to field security profiles in my new organization?

I'm using CRM 2015 on-premise.

Manually go into each FLS Profile and assign the appropriate teams to each.

    *  It shouldn't be too painful as you can select multiple teams at once and then click on Select, Add, Save

I don't think there's a faster way given you've already imported all your teams and users.

If you hadn't the configuration migration import tool might have been of some assistance.

    Note:

Given you're managing your security at a team level and a team cannot inherit security from another team this approach won't work:

    *  You can inherit FLS permissions so:

    *  You could create a 'FLS' team for each of the 12 FLS.

    *  You could go to the FLS profile and assign a FLS profile to each 'FLS' team.

    *  You can make users members of the appropriate 'FLS' team(s).

If all your users weren't already in the system and you managed things at a user level you could bulk enable users

    Thanks for answer,

but, what's the situation with managed solution?

I did a little test and made my solution (with FLS) managed, and then imported it.

FLSs cannot be edited in this situation. You cannot add anything (teams, users) to FLS.

    What to do then?

    P.S.

I haven't read "configuration migration import tool" yet, if answer is in there.

    Hi BT,

Are you logged in with the System Administrator field security profile? (You need to have at least the same permission levels to be able to give someone else any security permissions.)

The System Administrator field security profile gives full access to all secured fields in Microsoft Dynamics CRM. By default, all users who have the System Administrator security role have this profile.

    Otherwise:

When you make a solution 'managed' you can generally determine how much freedom the organisation has in terms of editing.

If the managed properties for solution components are able to be set to allow customizations, you can edit them in the Customizations area or from another unmanaged solution.

You may need to update your Managed Solution to make it a bit less locked down and then reimport it into your new environment.
