What exactly does "partially imported" mean when importing contacts?

Hi All,

Some users have imported a spreadsheet containing contacts.

Some of these are duplicates, and there are a number of "Partial Failures" reported.

Clicking into the import job, and into "Contacts Partially Imported", they all appear to be duplicates of existing contacts. Clicking on a few of the contacts in this view, it opens the record, and it appears they had all of the information that was present in the source spreadsheet.

What does "Partially Imported" mean in this context - that there is some data missing, or that the all the data was imported, but the import job was only partially successful because there were duplicates?

Thanks in Advance!

Partial import means that some of the data failed to import either due to duplicate record or any of the lookup field on the form fail to populate, as its associated record is not available.

Hi, that's what I would have thought, but when I look at the contacts for where it says "Partial Failures", it appears that all of the data is there. However, they are duplicate records. So it appears they have imported successfully, but are duplicates. Is that expected?

Well, i have to faced this issue earlier but i have found that some of the fields didn't populated in CRM. Just check with few records.

The partially created refers to the records that have been created not to the duplicates that failed.

If you are still having this problem, a common issue is with the owner of the record. If the import creates the contact successfully but cannot relate the "owner" to a User in the system, the record will have a status of "partially created." The record may contain all of your data but will be assigned to the User selected at the import stage rather than the Owner in your import file. (If the user exists check that they have a security role that enables them to own the record you are trying to assign to them)

    Best regards, Rob
