If you have an entity in CRM that contains a large number of fields you might find it hard to navigate through the list when you are looking to make a change to one of the attributes.
Like most grids in Dynamics CRM, clicking on the individual column headers will re-sort the items based on that criteria. But in instances where you have more than 100 fields, that often isn’t effective enough to make it easy to find the specific one you need to work with.
If you are looking for a custom field, one easy way that will make your search easier, is to simply change the view so it only shows custom fields. In the example below, you can see the result removes all of the out-of-the-box fields from the list in view.
But…if you have 100 or more custom fields this doesn’t necessarily get you to the specific field you’re looking for easily.
One of the things missing here is a ‘quick find’ type of search to filter the list down. CRM doesn’t provide this but the next best thing is using your browser’s native search capability to highlight the search results and skip through matches. On most browsers you can activate a search by hitting Ctrl-F.
After searching you can use the arrows to navigate between the different matches in the window. Not only does this work when looking for fields but it also works wonders when looking through the list of web resources you might have in your organization.
Hopefully this quick tip will not only save you time in your future searches but make you look like a CRM superstar when you pass it along to others to help them. Please let us know if you found this CRM quick tip helpful!
