Move from Sage to Business Central without breaking month-end

All My Systems Profile Picture All My Systems 84

Migrating Sage 50 or Sage 200 to Business Central isn't a software problem. The hard part is keeping finance confident in the numbers while VAT returns, bank recs and month-end still have to run on schedule.

If you're scoping one of these projects, this is where the effort actually goes:

  • Decide what data needs to move: customers, suppliers, nominal codes, opening balances, dimensions and only the transaction history you'll really use.
  • Reconcile the migrated figures back to Sage before anyone signs off go-live.
  • Time the cutover to the finance calendar, with a test migration and parallel running where it earns its place.
  • Redesign a messy chart of accounts instead of dragging old workarounds across.
  • Get users testing their own real processes, and trained, before go-live rather than a tidy demo script.

The full article also walks through realistic timelines by project size, cost bands and the migration risks worth planning around up front.
