I have been testing Dynamics CRM 2015 for a while now, and it still has its fair share of modal dialogs popping up. With Chrome 37/38 no longer supporting modal dialogs, this is an issue for Microsoft who invested a lot in development and marketing around cross-browser support.
Microsoft has published a workaround (http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/3000002) which reactivates the functionality in Chrome. This very temporarily alleviates the problem, but does not really fix the core issue. In the article, it states:
Until May 2015, a registry workaround is available to restore the showModalDialog() method.
Please note: This is just my speculative interpretation of the roadmap ahead. I can think of two reasons this date is stated:
- That is the milestone Google has for disabling the functionality completely from Chrome, or
- It is Microsoft's milestone for releasing a version of Dynamics CRM with the dialogs implemented in a different way.
If the former turned out to be true, Microsoft would still be forced to do the latter at some point if they want to continue supporting Chrome. This also fits well with the Q2 2015 timeframe stated in the unconfirmed leaks, next CRM release codenamed "Carina".
