What’s New in ASM 2012 V3.5
Arbela Security Manager (ASM) is the only natively built security solution built and managed within Dynamics AX and provides the user the comfort of never having to leave the Dynamics AX application.
After utilizing ASM, our customers have reported reduced:
- Security deployment time by 80%.
- Time spent on security management by 75% through the visualization and modification of users, roles, and user groups.
- Time creating Segregation of Duty and Watch List rules by as much as 90%.
- IT staff involvement with security related issues by 70% while minimizing the effort needed for reporting and environment management.
- Preparation time for audits and reports by 80%.
Some of the new features in ASM V3.5 include:
Replaced Segregation of Duties with Segregation of Objects
Segregation of Duties Rules utilized Duties to prevent security risks, while Segregation of Objects (SOOs) Rules work at the object level. This is a more granular, efficient and reliable way to prevent security risks, since the administrator will not have to consider which Duties might have access to the same objects. This change includes the addition of an SOO Report and a periodic job that can be run as a batch to verify SOO compliance. These SOO rules will prevent assignment if a conflict were to arise during a user-role assignment. Arbela provides a baseline of 130+ SOO rules. New rules can be created and managed easily using the native AX user interface.
Added Watchlist Functionality
The Watchlist feature allows the administrator to configure a rule to capture which users have access to certain objects. Through a periodic job, Security Manager collects the data regarding which users have access to objects defined to be watched. The administrator can then view an Inquiry form called Watchlist report, which reflects all the watched items and the access information pertaining to these watched items by user. The periodic job can be set up as a batch to capture the changes. This allows for a historical record of access at the times the periodic job was run. There is also a separate Watchlist report under Reports. Arbela provides a baseline watchlist rules. New rules can be created and managed easily using the native AX user interface.
Added Bug Fixes
Security Manager bugs were addressed.
Added Electronic Signature to SOO conflict Resolution
Electronic Signature functionality was added to the SOO conflict resolution process.
Added Database Log Functionality
The Database Log serves as a perpetual log of security changes that occur between database log checks The Database Log Check is a periodic job that you can set to run as a batch. The information captured will appear in an Inquiry form, where you can review the Role, Duty, Privilege and Object affected by the change, the action which caused the change, and the users and menu items that were affected by the change.
Relocated Jobs previously in other areas of the Security Manager module to the Periodic Area for easier management and batch setup.
In previous versions, there were some SQL scripts that were run as part of setup that now can be accessed in the Periodic menu for increased usability.
Added a more user friendly SQL settings tab to the Parameters form.
These SQL scripts need to be run as part of the initial setup. This new layout will allow for an easier installation process.
