General Ledger Account
In this post I will be discussing the the General Ledger Account. The first thing you need to know is that there is no more segments, (you don’t need to specify the maximum no. of segments and the maximum length when you create a new company), in Business Central it is a code of 20 characters.
To create a new account in MS Dynamics GP, you need to go to Cards -> Financial -> Account, then Account Maintenance Card will open, if you want to select an account, click on the lookup and a small form listing the accounts will open.

In Business Central, you need to search for Chart of Account, click on the related link, this will open the Chart of Account page, click on any of the accounts in the list and it will open the G/L Account Card page.

Or from the role centre you can go to Finance -> Chart of Account (This might be differ based on the Role Centre)

Now let’s have a look at the details:
| MS Dynamics GP | Business Central | Comment |
| Segment | Code of 20 | |
| Description | Name | |
| Alias | Search Name | |
| Allow Account Entry | Direct Posting | |
| Inactive | Blocked | |
| Category | Account Category & Subcategory | |
| Typical Balance | Debit/Credit | |
| Posting Type | Income/Balance | |
| Level of Posting Include in Lookup | Not in Business Central | |
| Other Fields | Not in MS Dynamics GP I will be covering them in details in future posts. |

Notes:
- In Business Central, there is no need to assign a currency to a G/L account as in MS Dynamics GP.
In the next post, I will explain more details about the other fields in Business Central G/L Account Card.
