Comedian Steve Rizzo Kicks Off NAVUG Summit 2014

“Feeling good is the fuel that drives motivation,” Steve Rizzo shared with the nearly 3,500 Dynamics users and partners attending Summit 2014, “That’s your choice, and that’s your responsibility.”

“No one can do that for you; you have to do it for yourself,” he continued “So I’m asking you to get your shift together. As soon as you open up your eyes [in the morning] focus on all the good. Why? Because this is the stuff that makes you feel good. And feeling good is the fuel that drives motivation.”

Summit attendees gathered bright and early to listen to the comedian & best-selling author’s Opening Keynote of Summit in St. Louis, MO. Steve’s approach to dealing with stress and negativity is to look for the humor in any situation because as he said “humor is everywhere.”

The power of laughter has been instilled in him from a young age. Steve recounted how his father frequently lectured his “Be proud of who you are, where you are from and what you do for a living.

While Steve recognizes that a positive attitude won’t prevent someone from having challenges, his experiences have proven that laughter and a sense of humor help you bounce back from those situations much quicker. Laughter shifts the brain’s focus away from the negative – even if only for a moment. When your thoughts return to the existing situation you’re in control, as opposed to being controlled by the circumstances.

Before sending attendees off to a full day of sessions and networking, Steve challenged them to consciously create the following three habits:

  • Begin each day by focusing on what they’re grateful for, what and who you appreciate, and
  • Remind yourself that each day is an opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life
  • Discover laughter within yourself and in the world around you – it’s everywhere

Prior to welcoming Steve to the main stage, CEO of Dynamic Communities (DCI), Andy Hafer, warmed the crowd – welcoming 47% first time attendees and hundreds of international visitors. Hal Howard, former Corporate VP of R&D for Dynamics ERP at Microsoft joined Andy in his new capacity as Executive Director at DCI. By joining the community, Hal continues his passion for all things Dynamics and makes it clear that even though he’s left Microsoft he hasn’t left the Dynamics users and partners with whom he’s spent his career.
