Out of the Box Power BI Enable- Modify-Use in Microsoft Dynamics 365 finance and operations

There is one question I always think is that why most of the customers/partners are not using standard power BI available within Dynamics??? (My opinion )

In this blog I am going to show you how powerful reporting it can be using out of the box Power BI and this is one of the activities I would recommend everyone to complete when we go live.

Trust me it has most amazing reports and dashboards.

Lets start:

Most of us, go and try to run report and we see this screen. And we leave this here

How can we make this work?

Setup:

Step-1: Enable entity refresh

Now what is entity store? Here it is shown very clearly from information flow perspective and how it works with power BI

Step-2: Check batch job

Step-3: Once batch job is completed, refresh your dashboards

This is just one example from Financial insight workspace but you can find this all over the place expense management, credit and collection, Purchase, sales analysis etc….

Modify

Now question comes what else we can do with this? What if we want to modify existing report? Change the dashboard visualization? Create new report???

So, answer is yes you can do all of this. Let me show you how?

Step-1: Open the dashboard which you want to modify

Step-2: Now you can create or modify report

In this example lets say I want to add new report

Step-3: View updated dashboard

This looks amazing isn’t? So you can do this for any standard dashboard using existing entity store.
