Warehouse release rule in advanced warehouse management in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations

Warehouse release rule in advanced warehouse management in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations

New feature made mandatory as of Mar 25 2020 and introduces new abilities for greater flexibility when releasing to warehouse.

It serves as a defining setup parameter to determine whether release of partially reserved order lines is allowed by the system or not.

It works hand-in-hand with advanced cross docking functionality where a part of an order line might be marked against a supply source and a part of the order line can still be processed in the warehouse, to allow the release of such line and continue with warehouse processing for the available inventory quantity.

New field on warehouse gets enabled as Requirements for inventory reservation and has following options:

  • Not applicable - The warehouse release rule is not evaluated.
  • Allow partial reservation - Order can be released to warehouse even if it is partially reserved.
  • Requires full reservation - When set to “Require full reservation”, orders will not be able to be released if the total quantity is not either physically reserved or planned for cross docking.
