Order Multiple in Dynamics 365 Business Central

Effective inventory management is essential for businesses to maintain optimal stock levels, reduce costs, and meet customer demand efficiently. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (BC) provides a variety of tools and settings to help businesses manage their inventory, one of which is the "Order Multiple" parameter. In this blog, we'll explore what Order Multiple is, how it works in Business Central, and its benefits for your inventory management strategy.

What is Order Multiple?

Order Multiple is an inventory management parameter that specifies the minimum quantity increment in which items should be ordered. This means that any replenishment order for an item must be a multiple of this specified quantity. The Order Multiple setting helps streamline procurement processes and can be particularly useful when dealing with suppliers who require orders to be placed in specific quantities or when aiming to optimize transportation and handling costs.

How Does Order Multiple Work in Business Central?

In Business Central, the Order Multiple is part of the item planning parameters set up on the Item Card. Here’s how it works:

  1. Set Up Item Card:

    • Navigate to the item card for the product you want to manage with Order Multiple.
    • In the Planning tab of the item card, you will find the field for Order Multiple.
  2. Enter Order Multiple Value:

    • Enter the desired multiple quantity that the system should use when suggesting order quantities. For example, if you enter "10," any suggested orders for this item will be in multiples of 10 (e.g., 10, 20, 30).
  3. Integration with Requisition Worksheet and Planning Worksheet:

    • When you run the Requisition Worksheet or Planning Worksheet to generate purchase or production orders, Business Central will take the Order Multiple into account.
    • The system will adjust the suggested order quantities to be the nearest multiple of the specified value, ensuring compliance with your Order Multiple setting.

Conclusion

Order Multiple is a valuable parameter within Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central that helps businesses optimize their inventory management by ensuring that orders are placed in specified quantity increments. By implementing and managing Order Multiple effectively, businesses can achieve greater procurement efficiency, cost savings, and improved supplier compliance.
