Microsoft CRM 2011 on an iPad hanging with slow response times? Update your iPad and your online recruiting software.

William W. - Professional Advantage Profile Picture William W. - Profes...

Staffing Tradeshow Season is upon us with Staffing World in Orlando last week. In preparation our office picked up a couple new iPads, including a new Verizon Wireless model. 1Staff staffing and recruiting software – Powered by Microsoft Dynamics® CRM – was extremely fast and looked great on the cellular data connection. However, we were having some issues with some older iPads in the office that we use at tradeshows and other events hanging or showing some unstable behavior when using Microsoft CRM.

One of the devices was an iPad 2, and after some investigation it was still running iOS 4.x. The issue with that iPad 2 and the version of the iOS is that you actually have to connect it to an iTunes account to update it. The normal wireless iOS upgrades aren’t automatically applied, but the older versions require you to reconnect the iPad to update it.

If you are running any old version of the iPad iOS like 2.x 3.x or 4.x and want a great experience running Microsoft CRM 2011 on it you want to make sure to upgrade to the latest version. We have different iPads on different iOS versions and both the 6.1.x (in this case 6.1.3) and 7.0.2 work well.

If you are doing some online searching for iPad support for Microsoft CRM it is also important to note that with Update Rollup 12 and now Update Rollup 14 that the older posts around what features/functions are supported on an iPad. Having it limited to some specific forms around the sales process are no longer relevant for the new releases. In our experience so far there are not limitations to the functions in Microsoft CRM you can access on an iPad, though there are a few minor items that work a bit differently.

For example, on an iPad while you can select the option to customize a form in the interface I haven’t spent enough time yet to figure out how you can actually drag and drop fields to create different form layouts like you can do now on Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer, or Safari in an Apple computer. Creating, renaming, etc. of the fields works well, but if someone out there knows how to actually drag and drop fields please post it here, or link it to your blog post answer.

If you want to get your staffing and recruiting company on the most advanced recruiting platform available please check out some of our other posts around iPad functionality and bi-directional SMS messaging here.
