How to Manage Blogs in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Community Portals

Community Member Profile Picture Community Member

D365 Blog ManagementBlogs are a Community Portal feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 that allows members of an organization’s online community to post blogs.

Blogs can be moderated or unmoderated, authenticated or unauthenticated.

Microsoft says “users can manage blog records under the Portals tab after your portal customizations have been imported into your Common Data Service environment.”

To manage blogs from the Content Editor, you must have blog author permissions. This will allow you to edit or delete blogs using the inline editing interface.

For those who already have these permissions, they will see the inline editing interface automatically when they sign into the portal.

Microsoft reminds users that “although a blog can be edited or deleted through the portal content editing interface, it must be created and initially configured in Dynamics 365 Portals.”

Microsoft advises these simple steps for editing a blog in the portal:

  1. Navigate to the blog’s home page
  2. Select “Edit” from the edit toolbar

To delete a blog, follow these simple steps:

  1. Navigate to the blog’s home page
  2. Select “Delete”
  3. Select “Yes” in the confirmation dialog box

Moderators can also control blog permissions and security in the portal.

Microsoft says that Read access is “inherited from read permissions on the blog’s Parent Page,” while Change/Write access to a blog “is controlled through the Author Roles relationship.”

Author Roles simply mean that users are given authorship permission on the blog to write, edit, revise, etc.

There are many blog attributes and relationships to keep in mind. Microsoft reminds users that “the way in which many of the content/display-oriented attributes are rendered is controlled by the page templates used.”

These are the blog attributes and relationships users should be aware of:

  • Name
  • Website
  • Parent Page
  • Partial URL
  • Home Template
  • Post Template
  • Archive Template
  • Summary
  • Comment Policy
  • Blog Posts
  • Author Roles
