Management Reporter does not download to Microsoft Excel when using Microsoft Edge

Terry R Heley Profile Picture Terry R Heley Microsoft Employee

Hi All,

Over the last few months, we have received a few cases from customers which indicate Management Reporter Reports are not downloading to Microsoft Excel when in Microsoft Edge.  The report can be successfully viewed in Web Viewer.

Also, most recently, (March 2026) due to updates with Microsoft Edge the Download or Publish buttons appear to be missing.  This is due to ongoing Microsoft Edge security and compatibility updates, certain legacy web applications—such as Dynamics GP Management Reporter Web Viewer—may no longer render all interface elements correctly.

Management Reporter relies on older web technologies originally designed for Internet Explorer. As a result, modern Edge behavior can affect toolbar elements, including the Download option.

With Dynamics GP approaching end of life and Management Reporter in maintenance mode only, it would be prudent to evaluate alternative reporting solutions that better support your organization’s future needs.

Temporary workarounds:
1. The page renders correctly when accessed using Firefox or Internet Explorer.

2. You could also try Internet Explorer Mode in Edge
You may need to adjust the browser zoom level less than 100% to restore visibility of all button icons.

3. The Management Reporter Viewer application also functions, but it is less user‑friendly.

If reports do not seem to download to Microsoft Excel:

Listed below are some of the most common reasons we have found why they cannot download to Microsoft Excel:

1. Edge Setting Download Location:

In your Edge Download settings (Edge Ellipse …  > Settings > Download) the Location is not correct.  Make sure the users has a valid download location and the user can read/write to this location successfully.

 2. Edge ‘Ask me what to do with each download’ setting not correct:

In that same Edge Download Settings (Edge Ellipse …  > Settings > Download), the option for ‘Ask me what to do with each download’ is not set correctly.  We have also seen where this option is not enabled.  We have also see where this whole field is grayed out so the user is not able to change it at all.  When this happens, you will need to talk with your IT department as they may have this field locked down.

 3. Edge Download toolbar is not on:

If you click on the Edge Ellipses (three buttons) and locate Downloads.  Right click on ‘Downloads’ and select the option to ‘Always show on toolbar’.  When this is not available, the file to download does not show in the download button in Edge.

 4. Launch Microsoft Edge as Administrator:

Before you generate your report to the Web in Management Reporter, launch Edge as ‘Run as administrator’.

5. Pop up blockers:

Sometimes pop up blockers can also cause an issue when you click the download on the report.  You will need to address any popup blockers which you may be getting.

6.Antivirus/Firewall:

Check is to see if any Antivirus or Firewall settings may be blocking downloads.

I hope this information helps you with any issues you might encounter when trying to download a Management Reporter report with the Web Viewer to Microsoft Excel using Microsoft Edge.
