Retail Inbound Other Destinations in D365| Approach to D365 for Commerce with Adv WH Mgmt
Hi Guys, Hope you have read my previous post where we talked about what are the ways in which we can route the products to Prep or Inbound value added service area in D365 using filter codes and disposition codes. In this blog we are going to see couple of other Inbound destinations. We are not going to cover in detail about those and that’s because the functionality needed to get the product there is similar to some of the other destinations.

- We talked about prep and we said that prep will use filter codes as well as disposition codes.
- QC is going to require a disposition code to get the product there.
- Moving products to the new SKU area will just be a filter code.
- And then as far as getting product to the pallet putaway area, again, that’s got to be a user-determined decision looking at that barcode receiver. So if it’s user directed, it’s going to require a disposition code.
- The last one is the forward pick location down at the bottom. You can take care of that situation by just adding in a location directive that seeks or searches the forward pick location to see if a given case would fit there, and, if so, it goes there. You don’t need to use a filter code or a disposition code. Although you will need to make sure that the filter code is not set first to send the product to the new product area because obviously, if that’s the case, then if you haven’t ever received it before, so you don’t know if it will fit or not because you don’t have good dimensions.
But other than that, all of these are accomplished using filter or disposition code except for that last one of moving to forward pick. But as you can see, D365 FO very completely satisfies the need to route product where it needs to go based on whether it needs to go there all the time, it’s system directed, or where whether it needs to go there just one time because the receiving operator has decided that for some reason it needs to go to that particular destination.
I hope you are leaving this series with a couple of really key points.
Keys to routing product
- Filter Codes – System Directed
- Disposition Codes – User Directed
First of all, that the inbound merchandise and Retail Warehouse covers a lot of different directions. Sometimes it’s system directed; sometimes it’s user directed. We’re accomplishing that system-directed activity using filter codes primarily mixed with location directives and work templates and everything else that you see. We’re accomplishing the user-directed activity using disposition codes that the receiving operator can set when he would like a particular case to go to some destination like QC or prep.
Partner value add points
- Barcode receiver report
There are some points where partners can add a good bit of value in the inbound side, but the primary one is that barcode receiver that the unloading people as well as the receiving associate is going to need in order to figure out how many units of a given PO line need to go to a particular destination. Remember, the unloading people need it to figure out if they should palletize something or not and the receiving associate is going to need it to figure out how much needs to go to QC when he first sees a given case of a particular product. The barcode receiver report does not have a lot of effort to create, but it’s a very important piece of this overall process flow on the inbound side of a Retail Warehouse.
Work arounds
- Using cones to signal when a pallet is ready
Finally, I hope you appreciate getting exposure to some of these very practical, I call them workarounds for transmitting, or communicating to the material handler that a particular pallet is ready to be moved.
- Moving each case to a destination one at a time
Also, I hope you saw that each case gets moved one at a time. And that’s not a big deal, but just it’s important to understand that as opposed to scanning them to a master license plate and moving them and then just leaving that master license plate, the functionality is best suited to moving each case individually. I mean, you’ll take the whole pallet at a time to the destination, but then you have to scan each one into that particular destination in QC, prep, or wherever.
So I hope that summarizes all of the inbound process flow and you have a good feel for how D365 FO Warehouse management along with Inventory management could meet the demands of the inbound side of a Retail Warehouse.
