New Security Roles and Tasks are missing when upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018

Derek Albaugh Profile Picture Derek Albaugh

As with past releases of Microsoft Dynamics GP, there are some new security roles and security tasks that have been added with the Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 release and because of this, if you are upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 from either Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015, you will need to run the attached scripts to make sure all of the security records are present in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018.

The tables impacted are SY10600, SY10700, SY09000 and SY09100 security tables and the new security records are mainly new functionality that is available in the new Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 release.

You will want to run these scripts against your system database for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 after the upgrade has completed on all databases and backups have been made.

This is by design in that we would not roll down new security roles to an existing Microsoft Dynamics GP environment, which may cause issues with your current security design. Therefore, we have chosen to release these new security records as an INSERT script, even though we do not recommend making any modifications to our default security roles or security tasks, but instead create custom security roles and security tasks to use and make changes to.

A new installation of Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 will already have all of these security records in the system tables, it is only when upgrading from either Microsoft Dynamics GP 2016 or Microsoft Dynamics GP 2015 that this issue will occur and require the running of these security record scripts.

The scripts for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 missing security roles and security tasks can be downloaded from this link:

--Updated 12/12/2017--

DYNAMICS-GP-2018-SECURITY-INSERT-SCRIPTS-V2.txt

If you are upgrading from a version of Microsoft Dynamics GP prior to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 version, you do not need to run any other insert scripts for missing security roles or security tasks for prior versions, you only need to run these scripts for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018.

***NOTE: When you run these insert scripts against your system database for Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018, it is normal that you will see PRIMARY KEY error messages referencing duplicated records trying to be inserted into the security tables. This can be ignored as it means that the record(s) already exist in that table and the script will not overwrite anything that is already present.

Thank you and Happy Upgrading!!!!

Derek, we are seeing a major issue with these updated 2018 scripts. The alternate/modified forms and reports permissions for DEFAULTUSER are getting messed up when you run this. In the case of the client I just worked with last week, it set all the windows and reports to project accounting, even though they have NEVER installed PA. In fact PA was no where in the dbupgrade table, but somehow this security script set them to the PA windows, when looking inside of GP it shows nothing selected (so you have to click on Dynamics GP to fix them all), but in SQL you can clearly see in the tables that it's pointing to project accounting product ID. Any idea why this script would mess up the report/form permissions for DEFAULTUSER

Don't see tables SY10600, SY10700, or SY09100 in my company database. Should run this script on the DYNAMICS database only?

GP 2018 is right around the corner and with that its important to remember that  New Security Roles and Tasks are missing when upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 .

You need to run a script to add them. I still don’t understand why this is
