How-To: Import/Export Data File

Ahmed Mohamed Rafik Profile Picture Ahmed Mohamed Rafik 3,049 User Group Leader

There is an important feature in Microsoft Dynamics NAV that enable users, and consultants to take backup of their company data, it is the “Import/Export Data file” with the extension (*.navdata).

You can relate to the last article that we discussed how to create and restore the data file in Microsoft Dynamics NAV HERE.

11

You can export the nav data file by selecting 4 options:

  • All Companies
  • Global Data
  • Application Data
  • Application (Similar to Export all object to an *.Fob file.) – (Don’t work with Import Function – Just Export Function)

Global data are the tables are common between all companies such as Users & Printer selection without the company specific business data.

Application Data are the data that define the application in the database such as Permissions, Permission Sets, Profiles, etc.

I dig in SQL Tables to know which table are related to which one, and found that tables with the name of the company (CRONUS International Ltd) are related to (All Companies) Checkbox as shown in the next image.

For the Global Data & Application Data, there are tables that are common between all companies, and you can find them in the next table:
