Turning Lot Tracking on in Dynamics GP really isn’t as difficult as it seems.
If you’re reading this blog, you know there’s a lot of discussion about how to turn Lot Tracking on for a GP item that’s already set up to NOT lot track. Over our 20+ years of supporting Dynamics GP, we’ve had several customers look for help and historically we’ve used the Microsoft Knowledge Base Articles to achieve this goal. With our extensive work in the Craft Brewing industry, with organizations that prefer to phase in new functionality, we’ve been challenged to find a better way to turn Lot Tracking on.
You don’t need to get the quantities to 0, and you don’t need to remove sales order documents, purchase order documents, or inventory transactions. What you need is a good plan, a test environment, the ability to backup and restore, the SQL script to change the flag, and the inventory reconcile utility. You also need to make sure the sales invoices and purchase order receipts either get posted prior to the work, or get updated once the script and reconciliation has been completed.
Last, you need to be willing to step outside the box and do exactly what you’ve been told not to do. Our brave customers have enjoyed the ability to turn Lot Tracking on for only the items they want to, when they want to, without too much fuss. Contact us today for more information about how you can achieve this goal without the difficulty!
