CRM IE Error Message: ActiveX control in an unsafe manner

Frank Lee Profile Picture Frank Lee 4,617
With the release of Microsoft CRM 4.0 Update Rollup 7 and Microsoft CRM Online R4 (November), a few of our customers are encountering the following Intenet Explorer (IE) error message when using their Microsoft CRM Web Clieint:

"Internet Explorer has blocked this site from using an ActiveX control in an unsafe manner.  As a result, this page might not display correctly."

This issue is noted in the following Microsoft KB 976539.

The KB mentioned that "You can safely ignore this message and allow blocked content".  Here is how to allow the blocked content:

From the Internet Explorer >> Tools menu >> Internet Options >> Security tab >> select the zone that CRM runs in (i.e. "Trusted sites") >> click on "Custom Level..." >> change the default "Disable" selection to "Prompt" for the "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting" setting:

Close all the open IE windows and relaunch the Microsoft CRM Web Client - there should now be a prompt "An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of the page.  Do you want to allow this interaction?" - click "Yes":
