Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 Features to Get Excited About
There’s plenty of hype about the changes coming with Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013, but what are some of the more specific changes we can expect? This extensive list should give you an idea. If you’re looking for more of a test drive, you may want to attend our Dynamics GP 2013 Launch Webinar. With that in mind, here’s what’s new for Dynamics GP.
Home Page
Metrics and Outlook have been moved off the front page and Business Analyzer has taken center stage. The page can easily be customized to change the number and location of columns on the page. Area pages (like Sales area) can be reorganized.
Reporting
1. It’s no longer necessary to choose your printer before printing (finally!!), this option is available from the dialogue box.
2. You can print reports directly from their respective maintenance windows.
3. 16 new word templates for reporting are available.
Email
1. It’s now possible to send documents in the context of the email itself.
2. System preferences now allows you to choose whether you are using a MAPI or Exchange server.
3. Word documents can be password protected through email, and this can be done automatically through the system preferences.
Payments
1. Address verification has been added to payments for more security.
2. ISO codes are now used to identify country, instead of what is entered in the country field. Now there’s no more sorting through US, USA, and America as though they were different countries!
Financials
1. General Ledger – You can now clear balances from individual unit accounts during year-end closing. You can also specify how empty accounts are automatically handled during the process. It’s also possible to view the period balance and the net change at the same time, batch approval information is easily retrievable, and subledgers can be reconciled to the general ledger.
2. Payables – Entries can be edited instead of voided and re-entered. Check stubs and remittance forms can also be reprinted with all the original detail, and voiding payments will automatically remove credit memos, returns, or related credit card vendor invoices.
3. Receivables – You can now take advantage of user-defined fields to track user address information throughout the whole system. These fields can be given universal parameters so that when users take advantage of them, they know what needs to be entered in the field. Furthermore, if you are dealing with multiple currencies, an unposted cash receipt can be applied to a transaction in the same currency as the cash receipt.
4. Multicurrency Management – There are now three ways to calculate exchange rates: using a rate table, using the average rate over the time period, or using the average rate for each day over the time period.
5. Analytical Accounting – It’s now possible for analytical accounting and fixed asset management to work in tandem with one another. Transactions can be saved with analysis information and analytical information can be seen from the Analytical Inquiry windows.
6. Electronic Banking – The BAI2 format is now available for added compatibility with the Bank Administration Institute. Since this format requires added fields, these have been added, and default entries can be applied to them if needed. EFT settlement dates are also available, so that you can specify when a transaction will be settled, not just transmitted.
7. Fixed Assets Management – Historical depreciation amounts have been factored in with more options, and the depreciation process information window now offers the option of reversing all depreciation for either all assets or a group of assets. Detailed depreciation reports can be submitted to the general ledger if desired. The account distributions can be edited before they are submitted to the general ledger, asset IDs can be automatically generated, and multiple calendars can be created.
8. Encumbrance Management – Multiple budgets can be selected for encumbrance at the same time. Encumbrance has also been integrated with the General Ledger.
