How to Prepare for the Automatic Transition to Microsoft Dynamics 365’s New UI

In September 2019, Microsoft announced that Microsoft Dynamics 365 would be implementing a New User Interface.

What does this mean for you, the user?

Microsoft states, “Over the last two years, our customers have been experiencing the benefits of the new user interface client for Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service, Project Service, Field Service, and Marketing. Many of our largest customers have successfully made the transition.

As we’ve reached the milestone of over 80% of organizations enabling Unified Interface, we’re announcing that the legacy web client will be deprecated. Customers must transition to Unified Interface before October 1, 2020.”

In addition to the deprecation of the legacy web client, Process Dialogs and Task Flows will also be removed on October 1, 2020, as Microsoft previously announced.

Microsoft announced this update to customers to allow for clear visibility into the transition.

Since announcing this in September 2019, Microsoft has been sending customers who still need to transition reminders and scheduling updates.

As of October 1, 2020, users will strictly be unable to use the legacy web client.

Customers will receive 30-day “warning” emails that their system will be upgraded. There are two additional updates to the system before this one occurs. Details about this process can be found here (Microsoft’s FAQ portal).

Microsoft will issue the following communication to you, if they haven’t already, if you are still using the legacy web client:

• An initial message for each environment that has a suggested transition date assigned.
• If you have approved the date, you will receive a reminder message two days before the dates are locked within the portal.
• A final reminder will be sent two days before the transition. This will state the transition date is locked and will go ahead with the transition.
• Post transition, there will be a closing message to confirm success (or address an issue if it has occured).

As a customer, you can push your dates, but no later than October 1, 2020. However, you must apply to push your date forward, and Micrsooft will have to approve it. Microsoft encourages its customers to not wait too long to make the automatic transition as dates are bound to become unavailable as more and more people are assigned.
