Dear Dynamics 365 Lovers
By gods grace, I wrote another blog on Microsoft Dynamics 365
This blog talks about the periodic journal functionality in Dynamics 365 Finance and operations.
Lets explore,
Firstly- What is periodic journal?
Periodic journals are sometimes called recurring journals, here the amount, account , and other information are repeated each time that the periodic journal is retrieved.
Configurations-
The only one setup is required for this function, which is – Create a Periodic Journal
Create a Periodic Journal
General Ledger-> Journal Setup- Journal Names
Create a Journal name and make sure to use “Periodic” as Journal Type (se below)
There is no other configuration is required.
Processing Periodic Journal
When you create the periodic journal, you specify the period interval for the recurrence, such as days or months. This task guide will create a periodic journal with a monthly recurrence
Prepare a Periodic Journal
General Ledger-> Periodic Tasks-> Periodic Journals
Create a new journal and go to lines
Update the line with the details like account, amount, description etc. and save the journal (This details will be used when the recurring/periodic journal will be used and posted)
Important (In this step- we update the Unit and Number of units, this is used for setting up the frequency when the periodic journal is retrieved)
Unit- This can be ‘Days’, ‘Months’, ‘Years’
Number of Units- Update the frequency of the Unit
Retrieve the Periodic Journal
This is the main part of using the Periodic Journal we created above
General Ledger- Journal Entries- General Journal
- On the Action pane, click Lines.
- On the Action pane, click Period journal.
- Click Retrieve journal.
Give ‘To date’, select ‘Periodic Journal’ we have created, and then select ‘Copy’ or ‘Move’
Copy= The periodic journal lines to be copied and the same periodic journal can be used in later date as well.
Move= If ‘Moe’ is selected, the journal line to be copied from the periodic journal but the lines will be deleted from that periodic journal, hence it can not be used later on.
Click ok.
Check and validate the journal
Now, the journal lines are auto updated with the lines we intended to do,
(In my example there are 5 lines created, because I used unit = Days and number o units= 2, hence it created 5 lines, my to date was given 4th Feb, hence it only created up to that date)
Post the journal and its done
I hope, this blog will assist you to get the concept of Periodic Journal and its usage in MSD365 F&O.
Stay tuned for more blogs.
