Background
The Fiscal journal (Libro giornale) is a mandatory fiscal requirement in Italy. All the companies are required, at years’ end, to produce it (an to pay a good amount of stamp duty on it according to the number of pages…).
The Fiscal journal has to fulfill these legal requirements:
list all the financial transactions made in a year by the company, with information like voucher, date, description, account, debit and credit…
the numbering of pages has to be sequential
the numbering of the transactions has to be sequential;
each page after the first one has to report the cumulative debit and credit amount from the previous page;
There should be 1 export per month;
The export of the subsequent month should retake the transaction, page and debit and credit amount of the previous one.
First page of the Fiscal journal
Subsequent pages of the Fiscal journal and the final total amount
Until version 10.0.45 the report to go was the “Fiscal journal” under General Ledger à Inquiries and reports (available only in legal entities having the address based in Italy):
This report served the needs, even if there were some known issues like:
if the description was too long, the pages would mess up the numbering because the numbering assumes that transactions per page were 25;
performance issues due to the printing of thousands of pages per month;
some accountants lament the fact that there is no “final” recorded version of the Fiscal journal but it can be reprinted as many times as needed (of course are also the same that are happy they can reprint it whenever they do adjustment transactions made in April or so…).
The new version
Starting from version 10.0.46 Microsoft released a new version of the report. In fact, from version 10.0.44 when launching the report in the old SSRS-format you would get an Infolog like this one:
The instructions to set it up can be found here at this link and I will not go into them, but they include the activation of two features and the download of a ER configuration from the Dataverse:

The launch menu
This is the new link to launch the fiscal calendar in the new version under the General Ledger module:
By clicking inside we can see that the layout of the form is different from the old one, but the options are the same, only differences are that:
the posting layer is now a dropdown with the possibility of multiselection;
the running balance can be included or not.
The output
Below a comparison of the output:
OLD VERSION
NEW VERSION
These are the first impressions:
the layout that is slightly different, but all the information are the same as before;
the performances in the Demo environment are way more efficient than in the old version, I will update this part when trying on a test environment with full loads of data;
as before when choosing the next reporting period, the system defaults the right-end side with the data of the previous month, with the possibility to amend them before launching
I will give you update this post with an update on the performances as soon as I launch it in a Production environment.
That’s all folks, see you next time!
