Clone Dynamics 365 Field Service “Work Orders” along with related products, services & service tasks using @ZapObjects Copy Record App for Dynamics 365 Sales, Customer Service & #PowerApps

Duplicating of record is one of those nifty features that doesn’t exist in PowerApps / Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Sales / Customer Service / Field Service out-of-the-box. Using Zap Copy Record App you can Copy, Clone or Duplicate Records (& related child records) in a single click!

In this blog, we will go through the configuration steps needed for CLONING of Work Orders!

Use-Case: Service technician completes a work order. Next time, Customer requests same job with same incident type, products and services. How do we clone this existing Work Order?

This can be easily achieved using Zap Copy Record App! Lets see how:

A work order in Dynamics 365 Field Service has information on what work needs to be done. Work orders are used to coordinate and schedule resources and activities. They can be used for different types of work, such as installations, repairs, or preventive maintenance.

We repeatedly come across scenarios where Customer requests the same job again. It is quite tedious to again create a new Work Order… Fill-in all the required details (like service account, billing account, work order type, summary, preferences and many other details)… add the necessary products, services, service tasks, etc.

To enable cloning of Work Orders using Zap Copy Record App… a “Copy Template” needs to be created. Below are the high level steps:

Pls note that the app comes with most used templates already created. So by clicking button “Install Sample Templates”… Copy Template for “Work Order” will automatically get created. Below steps have been shown to just show what it takes to enable any entity for CLONING!

Step 1: Open New “Copy Template”… select entity as “Work Order”

Step 2: Exclude any fields that should not be copied over:

Here we are excluding fields of “Primary Incident”. This is optional.

Step 3: Select related products, services and service tasks

That’s it…now you are ready to CLONE Work Orders! (Pls note that we also need to create clone templates for products, services and service tasks… for details please refer our Support KB articles)

Below screenshot shows COPY button is now available across “Work Order” record:

Below screenshot shows COPY button is also available across child products, services and service tasks sub-grids (within the Work Order form):

Thus we can see that using CLONING of Work Orders is so quick and effortless using Zap Copy Record App!

6. New Version Released: Zap Time Entry App (Track Time against Cases): Track and log time spent by support agents on cases directly from Case form (either using built in Timer functionality or manually add Start & End Times or duration)! The latest version provides automatic calculation of “Extended Price” based on Hourly/staff rates that have been configured in Contract.

7. Completely Revamped: Zap Attachment Viewer (with drag-and-drop): This release doubles the features available earlier!!! Some of them are Improved UI, gallery view, drag-and-drop, rename file names, delete attachments, attach to email, view attachments from related records etc.
