Making a saved query a favorite in Dynamics AX

jac_rod Profile Picture jac_rod 39 Moderator

Here is a tip that lots of users I encounter have not seen before. Although plenty of people use favorites in Dynamics AX, they often miss out one of the best pieces of functionality.
In Dynamics AX (not just 2012,) it’s possible to save filters from forms in order to easily access them in the future. When on a form you would like to filter and save, make your filter. In this example’s case, I have filtered the “All customers” list page to only show customers that belong to the “Wholesale customers” customer group (10 in this case.)

After the list page is filtered, the filter can be saved. When the filter is saved, it can easily be applied so the user doesn’t have to remember what filters were applied. To do this, when the filter is applied, click the “All customer (unsaved filter)” drop down, and click the “Save as Filter…” button. Choose an appropriate name and click “OK.”

Next, add the “All customers” list page to your favorites. This can be accomplished by right-clicking the menu item and clicking “Add to favorites.”

To point the favorite to your saved query, right-click on the “My favorites” link in the navigation pane and click the “Organize favorites” button.

Next, select the favorite you just created and click the “edit query” button.

If you would like, you can rename the favorite to something that indicates that it will open a saved query, but you do not need to. Now, clicking on your favorite will open the “All customers” list page with the “Wholesale customers” filter already selected!
