NAV “Sicily”
Yes, it is a true. NAV version 8 is coming. New NAV has code name “Sicily”. I think, new version will be ready in early 2014, but I expect the Beta version in 2013Q3 or in Q4. Because all of us expect beta, Direction EMEA moved the conference from April to September, to be in line with the new NAV version.
I am localization partner, and we are not a happy about this roadmap; we have to have a team that will work on localization all the time. But this is a plan. New NAV versions will come every year, beleive or not. Microsoft sets the rules, and we can only adapt or give up.
Information from official roadmap does not tell us much. But insider information tells us that “Sicily” will introduce a new Windows 8 interface. And, just as NAV 2013’s interface conformed to Office 2010 standards; “Sicily” will be closely tied to Office 2013.
I heard, that there will be less new functionality (cash management e.g.) and more tchnical (new client, better hosting model, a lot more integration with Office 2013 and Office 365…).
Also, I heard from MS employees from development team that upgrade will be much simpler. I hope it will be a true and not be too many changes in code and we will do the localization easier than NAV2013. I hope we will not have to do CfMD aganin. I hope CfMD for 2009 or 2013 will be valid for NAV8.
NAV4Construction is on the end of the migration process to NAV2013. It will be send on CfMD test next month. Thereafter, we wait NAV8 with anticipation. As soon as we get beta version, we will start with migration process of NAV4Construction. We want to use all the new NAV8 features. For now, we are waiting and work on NAV2013. As soon as we get new information about 'Sicily", I will share them with you.
