This is like a quick translation from MS Dynamics GP idioms, terms, names…etc to Business Central, It will help to understand better and give a clearer image.
First of all, the sample company in MS Dynamics GP is “Fabrikam” and in Business Central is “Cronus”
The following terms have exactly the same meaning in both:
General Ledger | Accounts Receivables | Accounts Payables | Fixed Assets | Inventory |
General Ledger Account | Customer | Vendor | Fixed Assets Books | Item |
Dimensions | General Journal | Recurring Journals | Deferrals | Sales Quote, Order and Invoice. |
Purchase Quote, Order and Invoice. | Lots & Serial Tracking | Bins |
The following terms are different:
MS Dynamics GP | Business Central |
Chequebook | Bank Account |
Dimension Code | Dimension Value |
Advanced Financials | Account Schedules |
Site | Location |
Fixed Assets Account Group | FA Posting Group |
AR Transaction Entry | Sales Journal |
AP Transaction Entry | Purchase Journal |
Cash Receipt | Cash Receipt Journal |
Manual Payment | Payment Journal |
Landed Cost | Item Charges |
Bank Reconciliation | Reconcile Bank Statement |
Classes (Customer, Vendor, Item) | Templates |
Quick tips to start with:
- To quick start navigating, use the search feature, I will be discussing the menu in Business Central in another post.
- There is no dedicated page for Bank Transfers and Bank Transactions, Use General Journal.
- There is no smart list in Business Central, The design will open a list page (Listing the records) and then the card page, so if you search for a customer (using the search feature), Business Central will open the customer list.
- Business Central uses “Flow Fields”, which is a type of field that is calculated on the fly when you open a page (for example customer balance), clicking on that filed will open a list page display the related records.
I will be updating this article as needed to add more terms.
Until Next post
