Run the inventory value report using the new Inventory value report storage

Business value

This new way of executing the inventory value report is beneficial in cases where the output contains a large number of lines. For example, requesting the inventory ending balance by item, site, and warehouse in a scenario with 50.000 items and 300 stores would yield a very long report, where data is difficult to review. Being able to sort and filter the results, or to export the results to an external system, makes the inventory value report results faster and easier to navigate.

Enable feature: Inventory value report storage:

  • Navigate to workspaces > Feature management.
  • Select feature name ‘Inventory value report storage’ and then, in the details pane, select Enable Now. The feature is turned on.
  • Please refer to the following link for Feature management overview.

Running the Inventory value report storage

  • Navigate to Cost management -> Inquiries and reports -> Inventory value report storage.

When you initiate a new execution of the inventory value report, you will have to provide a unique name for the specific execution, and the results of the report generation will be stored under this name. This eliminates the need for running multiple inventory value reports for the same period.

  • Click New-> A dialog will pop-up to type a unique Name for the specific data execution and In the field ID lookup, the user can select between all the user-defined layouts.
  • The data generation is predetermined to execute in a batch and cannot be changed.
  • When the batch job has completed the data report will be visible in the form.

  • The user can see the execution time and the parameters used to generate the report.
  • The user can then see the result of the data generation by clicking View details.
  • Standard filters can then be applied if required Note: Subtotals will not be calculated nor displayed at any level and Incase the user would like to get Subtotals or in any way use the data externally it preferred to use the new data entity we have provided.

Note: The possibility of generating the inventory value report on a transaction level is only available using the new Inventory value report storage and the user will be notified with the same when running the inventory value report on a transition level with the following message:

With Inventory value report storage feature enabled, transaction mode is now available only on the Inventory value report storage

Export the data and using data entity

Users can export the inventory value records by exporting from the Inventory value report storage form or using the new Inventory value data entity.

Note: You might need to refresh the entity list to get the inventory value entity by navigating to Workspace -> Data management -> Framework parameters > Entity settings and then click the refresh entity list.

  • Navigate to Workspace -> Data management -> Export and Click New.
  • Create a new Export template and use data entity Inventory value.
  • Add a filter for a specific execution name before exporting the records If this is not done, you will get data from all the executions exported.

Hi Mohamed, thanks for the excellent article! Would you know how to access the Inventory Value entity directly from Power BI through an odata connection? I cannot see this entity from the Power BI connection.
