Attachment Errors when Emailing PDF Statements without Word Templates within Microsoft Dynamics GP

Justin Sutton Profile Picture Justin Sutton

Since the April 2019 Adobe update the Non-Template Statement functionality within Dynamics GP has been running into issues saving the Exception report it used to save or email with older versions of GP. This still saves or emails for users who have it setup in the RM40101 table or in the Dex.ini file.

Overall there are a few different errors that can appear:

Could not e-mail status report to Sender.Attachment Open Failure
Could not email status report to Sender. Attachment not found
E-mail status report unknown error

The issue is that this report is saved as a PDF, using Adobe Writer/Distiller and those programs are throwing the Confirm Security warning seen above which may not show on the front end. As GP is not designed to handle this warning, it has issues creating or opening the Exception Report (which GP refers to as “Attachment”). We have seen a few cases which all mention the word “Attachment” with different specific errors, and after reviewing the settings per the following Adobe blog, we were able to resolve the issue without touching anything with GP.

Steps for Acrobat DC, Acrobat 2017 or Acrobat 2015:
1. In Acrobat, go to Edit > Preferences (Windows), or Acrobat > Preferences (Mac)In the left pane, select Convert to PDF.
2. In the Converting To PDF section, select PostScript/EPS and click Edit Settings.
3. In the Adobe PDF Settings dialog, deselect the option Always Show File Trust Dialog Before Conversion and click OK.

Steps for Adobe Acrobat Distiller:
1. In Adobe Acrobat Distiller, go to File > Preferences (Windows).
2. In the Security section of the Preferences dialog, select the option Trust All Files Opened Via Acrobat Distiller.

NOTE: These Adobe settings require a full workstation restart to take effect.

Adobe Acrobat is NOT the same as Adobe DC or Adobe Distiller, and they may all have different version numbers. Adobe Acrobat can only open PDFs, not create them. Workstations will need to have DC/Distiller installed and have these settings reviewed for GP to email PDF statements correctly without using Word Templates.
