Want to help us do localization in Dynamics NAV?

S.H. Alexandersen Profile Picture S.H. Alexandersen 136

Dynamics NAV has a long tradition of being localized to countries all over the world, and local functionality provides our customers with tools and means to be compliant in reporting to local governments and other processes imposed on businesses by legislation in a given country. This post is about the kind of localization we call regulatory features

Need for localization

Things are moving fast these days and being able to report more data electronically is something we see have a big uptake worldwide. From electronic invoicing to electronic reporting of transactions and accounts, governments are working on overdrive to enforce legislation and processes which impacts many businesses; in many cases all business in a country. The reasons are many - ambitions for making business to business trade easier and seamless, desires to overcome fraud and data privacy are all big drivers. You have probably heard of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) that will be enforced by May next year, which is an example of this.

While GDPR is not directly in the scope of my work with regulatory features in Dynamics NAV it is related. Some legislation is being passed in a country, imposing some requirements on businesses, and we can then choose how we help our customers to be compliant by providing a feature to support this new process.

Local knowledge is valuable

This is where you as a Microsoft Partner come into the picture. You have valuable knowledge of the businesses in your country, you know how they work and what their pains and opportunities are. The requirements imposed by legislation is often complex and subject to misinterpretation and from a product group and development perspective there is a risk of not hitting the nail straight on when making regulatory features to help our customers comply. We would like to have even more partners help providing feedback and help us interpret local requirements to ensure we deliver even more valuable features going forward. Also, we would like to invite partners to test these regulatory features pre-release, to raise the bar for the overall product we release. This will gain both partners and customers and Microsoft.
