Copy Data Between Companies Using Configuration Worksheet in Dynamics 365 Business Central
When working with multiple companies in Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, it’s common to reuse master data like Customers, Vendors, or Payment Terms across companies.
Earlier, the only options available were copying the entire company or using Configuration Packages (RapidStart Services) to import data manually — both of which were time-consuming and prone to errors.
To simplify this, Microsoft introduced the “Copy Data from Companies” feature, which allows users to selectively copy data from specific tables of one company to another.
This means you can now migrate key records easily without duplicating entire setups.
In this blog, I’ll share a simple step-by-step demonstration of how you can copy data between companies using the Configuration Worksheet in Business Central.
Currently, I am in a company named ‘NEW’. As you can see, there are no vendors available.
Add the tables from which you want to copy data.
For example, if you want to copy Customer data, add Table 23 – Vendor to the list.
A pop-up page appears where you can select the source company from which you want to copy data.
You’ll also see the number of records available for the selected table.
Select Copy Data from Company Action. Once you confirm, a message appears asking for confirmation before proceeding
The Copy Data from Companies functionality is a hidden gem in Business Central that many users overlook.
Whether you’re setting up new legal entities, expanding into new regions, or standardizing master data across multiple companies — this feature can save hours of configuration time.
