Drop Shipping Sales Orders in Dynamics 365 Business Central

Learn How to Drop Ship a Sales Order with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

Distributors need the ability to quickly and easily drop ship items to their customers. The more streamlined this process is, the better. But there’s a lot to account for: you have to create both a sales order and purchase order, and then ensure that both of these are posted correctly.

With Dynamics 365 Business Central, this process has never been easier. With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to create a sales order in Business Central, generate the corresponding purchase order, drop ship the item(s) to your customer, and post the sales order and purchase invoice.

Creating the Sales Order

The Business Central dashboard presents you with a list of your most essential tasks, making it easy to find what you need right away. When you go to create a new sales order, you’ll have the option of marking each line item as a drop shipment. Doing so will ensure that the item is marked for drop shipment within Business Central.

Creating the Purchase Order

Once you’ve created a new sales order, it’s easy to generate the corresponding purchase order. On the purchase order screen, you can quickly populate the ‘Ship-to’ field with the appropriate customer information. From there, it’s just a couple of clicks to create the purchase order and drop ship the item(s) in question.

Posting the Sales Order and Purchase Invoice

Once the sales order and purchase invoice have been created, you can easily access them from your Business Central dashboard. Posting them is easy, and you can invoice the customer at the same time -- no extra steps required.
