Are you guilty of dashboard envy?

We have all been there as we see a co-worker’s CRM on screen and behold the beauty of their data packed dashboards. At the single click of a mouse or touch of the screen a user, manager or owner can drill down into their sales pipeline, see product lines order history by volume, gross profit or revenue, measure the success of marketing campaigns or track the time to close for customer service cases. If the information is in CRM, you can slice it, dice it and view it any way you want.

Dashboards are bright, colorful and pack a lot of information into one easily accessible chart or table that makes life a whole lot easier on a daily basis.

If a CRM user isn’t using dashboards, it typically isn’t because they don’t want to. They want to go dashboard crazy (and many do), they just might not know where to start.

Out of the box, Microsoft Dynamics CRM comes with a wide array of views, reports and charts ready to go that are not only useful to get you started with dashboards, but to spawn some creative ideas of dashboards you wish to use.

But, I do want to advise caution. Overuse of dashboards can be counterproductive. If you create too many, there is a good chance you won’t use any, so be selective and don’t be afraid to get rid of dashboards if you are no longer using them. No reason to clutter up your workspace with dated charts and lists.
