X++ Editor Extensions

Volker Breitkopf Profile Picture Volker Breitkopf

In general, we tend to value things once we have lost them.

Today I want to point to something that I love but seldom realized it isn’t part of standard AX 2012. I set up a new development environment for myself and was wondering about the poor experience in the MorphX code editor.

I’m talking about the Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 X++ Editor Extensions that help you with three little things:

  • Brace matching
  • Outlining
  • Word highlighting

Especially the highlighting is extremely useful for my daily work!

The tool was released by José Antonio Estevan and can be installed easily. That was described i. a. by Tommy Skaue in his blog in which he points out one thing I was struggling with (the extensions do not work even though you put them into the correct folder and restarted the client): You might need to unblock the files to make them work.
