At times you may have situations arise where users have limited experience in Microsoft Dynamics CRM or perhaps you have a temporary need to update records with fields that are locked for editing on a form.
If you are a CRM System Administrator, Developer or Power User, using a dialog is a quick, easy fix to this situation.
Using a dialog can easily facilitate updating this information quickly, while reducing the opportunity for errors to occur.
When employing dialogs to update existing information, consider displaying the existing data with your prompt and response setup within the dialog.
This offers several potential advantages:
- Allows the user to see the existing data when using the dialog – they can see the current style and format. You can also add prompt comments to clarify what needs to be entered (i.e. “Enter only values between 1 and 100”).
- If multiple fields are set up for prompt and response, users can quickly update only the fields they need to change.
- Users have the ability to delete values by clearing the value within the dialog.
- It saves time in writing the dialog as you don’t have to check each prompt and response as to whether a value was returned.
Add the field name to the “Default Value” spot in the Response Details section of the dialog Prompt and Response as shown below:
