#MSCONNECT Allow Dynamics GP Desktop client to resize correctly based on screen DPI percentage

This is the second in a series of blog posts where I will be highlighting Microsoft Connect product suggestions that need the community’s support. If you agree with the product suggestion, please help get as many votes as you can.

The issue which is the subject of today’s article is the ability to resize Microsoft Dynamics GP for various screen sizes and DPI settings.

Back when Windows 7 was released, I came across an issue where the font size for Microsoft Dynamics GP was incorrect. In my case the font was larger than it should be and prompts were getting cut off (and it looked ugly).

I discovered that the issue was caused by Windows defaulting to a DPI setting of 125% on installation (based on my monitor and display card) and setting the default bitmap font size to 120%. Even though I was able to return the DPI setting to 100%, the bitmap fonts remained at 120%.

After a fair amount of research I was able to find the cause and a solution and documented how to edit the registry to change the size of the bitmap fonts. I even included an interface to make the registry changes simple into the Support Debugging Tool (now GP Power Tools).

The issue has raised itself again, but this time going in the other direct. Machines are now running at super high resolutions above Full HD (1920×1080) such as the Surface Book (3000×2000) or 4K screens (3840×2160) and GP just cannot size up to be easily readable on these displays. The bitmap font only has 100% or 120%.

Windows 10 does seem to offer better resizing abilities, even with the bitmap fonts. However, it would be great if Dynamics GP could resize like other applications.
