5 Project Team Mistakes to Avoid During Your CRM Implementation

1. Your Project Team is Too Small
Among managers, it’s common to feel apprehensive about including a large number of people in your CRM project.

While it’s true you shouldn’t include too many people just to include them, you also need to consider how your departments are represented.

Having too few people involved in your CRM project creates an imbalance.

Lack of representation almost always leads to low user adoption.


2. Your Project Team is Too Large
Oppositely, when your project team is too large, there is a lack of accountability. When you create your team, you want to find the middle ground that makes sense for your organization.

Nothing gets done when everyone is involved. Be selective, but inviting when building your project team.

You will sense which team members need to be involved and which do not.


3. Your Project Team is Too IT-Heavy
When IT is overly involved, there is often a lack of focus on the business process and more on the technology.

You always want your CRM Solution to complement your business process. As we say at Ledgeview: Process First. Technology Second.

Balance is key.

Get the right people involved in the right roles from the right departments at the start of your CRM journey.


4. Executive Sponsors are Micro-Managing Users
Don’t make this mistake, Execs! Users will become resistant to offer ideas and lead when they are micro-managed.

You want to encourage their feedback and involvement in your CRM project from start to finish.


5. Team Members Have No Time
This is a sorry excuse, but one we still come across.

This mistake is often a reflection of a CRM system being implemented at the wrong time or team members not having enough information or awareness about CRM to allow it to succeed.

Once you implement CRM, CRM is forever. It should be at the core of your business. You should feel lost without it.

Users, Managers, Execs, and Sponsors alike must make time. Your team must make CRM a priority for it to succeed.
