Greeting,

I want to design routes in Microsoft d365 for flexible packaging company. the problem is there is no pre-define route in the factory and based on capacity of the machines and customers order they decide to which machines works for producing finished goods. for creating new batch order in the d365 I have to design and define all the possibilities which will happen during manufacturing but number of routes will increased awfully. what is the best practice for designing routes in this factory?

Thanks in advance,
Sepehrdad

    Hi,

Do you mean that the operations in the route of an item can be different dependent on which machine is being used or is this different items basically?
Or can an item be produced in different ways or is it the same process but just a different machine?
If so you could have an operation x with a resource requirement = Resource group x that contains this different machines. Then on the specific order you can schedule the machine resource that you would like to use for that case manually.
Please explain an example if its not according to above scenario.

    Best regards, Elias

    Dear Chetan

we are in same page and I agree with you but my question was in production strategies like "Make to order" or "Engineering to order" in packaging industry permutation of operations are huge and it cause difficulty for designing routes. right now I'm looking for best practice or similar experience in this industry.

    Hi
There is need to be predefined route if not then need to create manually for each batch order which could be extra step for the users.
I am not sure about the your business requirement fully. Worth checking 'Resource capabilities' function of D365 if that could be useful.
