Possibility to change the Container Type after a container has been created?

Hi everyone,

I would like to know whether it is possible in Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management to modify the Container Type after a container has been created during the packing process.

Business Case
We are shipping bulk material on pallets, and the final pallet height can vary depending on the quantity packed.

Our process is currently:
  • Create container
  • Pack items into the container
  • Close container + Enter the container gross weight
The challenge is that container types have fixed dimensions (Height × Length × Width).
At the time of container creation, we do not yet know the actual pallet height because it depends on the quantity packed.

My initial idea was to create several container types based on pallet heights, for example:
  • PAL140 → Height = 140 cm
  • PAL150 → Height = 150 cm
  • PAL160 → Height = 160 cm
However, I would like to know if one of the following options is possible:
  • Change the container type after the container has been created, once the final pallet dimensions are known.
  • Adjust the container height for a specific shipment/container, without creating a new container type.
Has anyone implemented a similar scenario? What would be the recommended approach in Dynamics 365?

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

    Good day,

I believe that this is not possible in standard Dynamics 365 SCM. I encountered a similar requirement in the past and created an idea on the Ideas portal.

I think the only option would be to consider a customization.

    Best regards,
