Bulk Updating BOM Sites After Warehouse Relocation – Data Import Fails with Multiple Errors

We are closing one site and moving production to a new warehouse, which means we need to update the Site on approximately 1,500 Bill of Materials (BOMs).

All BOMs are currently Approved and Active.

I attempted to update them using Data Management with the following entities:

BOM (Bill of Material Header)
BOMLine (Bill of Material Lines)

Field 'BOM' does not allow editing
Invalid specification of BOM
Number sequence Bill_1 does not allow change to a lower number
Validation of field 'From date' failed
Validations failed

When updating manually in the UI, switching the Site also clears the Warehouse field on all BOM lines, which makes a bulk update even more challenging.

My questions:

Do all BOM versions need to be set to Draft before they can be updated in bulk via Data Management?
Is it possible to bulk-update only the Site field without affecting the Warehouse field on the BOM lines?
What is the recommended or supported method to update the Site on a large number of approved/active BOMs in D365 F&O?
Is there a better data entity or process to use for mass BOM updates related to site changes?

Any guidance or best practice for handling this type of large-scale BOM update would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, 1500 is not a lot, if you able to develop a x++ job you can do it by code, in this case just update site and warehouse and update data on existing BOM and Versions.

The right solution using Data Management in my opinion is to import a new BOM and new Version than activate, that replace the old one. You can't update an activated BOM unless is on Draft state.

Diego,  Thank you for the response and i will review with our development team to see if they can develope a x++ job

I agree that with the right solution you proposed for data management is the preferred option.
