Trouble Posting General Journal

Hi everyone,

I’m facing an issue in Business Central while trying to post a General Journal entry for a payment to Ruul, which we use to pay freelancers.

🔴 Issues:

Document Number Sequence Block

I accidentally used a random document number (like 123789), which was rejected. After checking the No. Series, I used the correct next number (e.g., G001), but the system still won’t let me post by saying an earlier document must be posted first. I can’t find any unposted document before this one.

Gen. Posting Type Required:

When posting to G/L Account (freelancer services), I’m told to set a Gen. Posting Type because posting groups are used. I’ve set it to “Purchase”, which seems correct for a vendor payment, but the error remains.

✅ What I’ve Done:

Reviewed No. Series settings

Used correct document number

Set Gen. Posting Type = Purchase

Checked posting groups and journal line setup

Followed Microsoft Copilot AI suggestions but no success

🆘 What I Need Help With:

How to fix the document number sequence issue?

Hello,

You need to ensure the document number sequence is correctly aligned by checking for any unposted entries and updating the "Last Used No." in the No. Series setup if needed.

For the Gen. Posting Type error, confirm that the journal line includes "Purchase" as the Gen. Posting Type, and that both Gen. Bus. Posting Group and Gen. Prod. Posting Group are correctly assigned and match the G/L Account used.

If issues persist, creating a new journal batch with a fresh No. Series may help isolate and resolve the problem.

Dear Concern,

Greetings!!!

On your General Journal, click on the action button Renumber Document Numbers, from the Home menu. The system will automatically update the document number from the default No. Series setup for the related Batch.

Hi, Or you can just remove the No. Series in Batch.

Hello @CU30070903-2,

To fix it, go to the No. Series Lines, check what the last used number was, and look for any journal lines using that number that haven’t been posted. If you find one, either post it or delete it to clear the block.

As for the Gen. Posting Type error, double-check that you’ve selected Purchase on the line and that the Gen. Business Posting Group and Gen. Product Posting Group are properly set. Also, make sure the G/L account you’re using allows posting with those groups. If all that looks right, the line should post without issues.
