Consequences of forcefully deleting Job Planning Lines

Hey Everyone,

Seeing how there is no clearcut method of archiving old Job data (BC has built in functions for archiving every other table) I'm leaning towards just biting the bullet and deleting some old planning line records.

Context :  I work for a construction company.  We use the Job Card, Job Planning Lines extensively, along with Excel sheets that are linked to the same.  We've been runing BC for over 4 years now and those tables contain job data from 4 years ago.  Yes, I know we can just filter the view to hide 'completed' job but  where this is starting to have an effect is in the Excel sheets.  The refresh times are now getting out of hand - 1 to 2 minutes.

Heres what I've done : In our sandbox I go to a job and run the command More Options - Actions - Functions - Archive Project.  This appears to copy the associated "Job Planning Lines" to the table "Job Planning Lines Archive".
I then use the Data Editor app from Volodymyr Dvernytskyi, open up Job Planning Lines, filter to the same job, toggle the switch "Without Validation" and then delete all the entries.

So far, nothing appears "broken".  The Job itself may look a look a funny, as it now has no budget.  But the actual cost and actual invoiced amount are untouched.  Job Ledger Entries remain untouched,

Do you think I'm safe to do this in Production ?  Pushing it a little further....what about opening up the Job list and deleting the whole job ?

Thanks for any insight!

    Thanks for reply Valentin,

That function "Archive Projects" is a bit misleading.  It should really be called "Project Snapshot" as it doesnt move or clean up any of the entries anywhere.  It simply captures everything project-related as at that point in time.

At the risk of going off-topic, our Excel sheets are connected via Odata and the Microsoft Dynamics Add-in.  The add-in is fast, but unfortunately you can only have one connection per Excel workbook.  The Odata is the problem as despite filtering, it insists on downloading *everything* and then performing the filtering on the client side.

I will check out Jet reports - I hadnt heard of that!  Thanks for the tip.

There is functionality to archive job/projects, its the function you mentioned - Archive projects | Microsoft Learn

How are your excel sheets connected to business central? Are you using edit in excel, odata, jet reports? Personally I would try to find a way to filter data pulling into excel to make it load faster rather than delete job planning lines.
