Extreme slowness with printing invoice and post packing slip

Hello Team,

We are experiencing extreme slowness when posting packing slip and printing invoicing.

The issue is that when doing same, it should take not more than 5 minutes to post packing slip for around 30 clients and printing of 20 more invoices. The printer is specifically used to print in invoice format.

For example:

If we execute a printing of 33 invoices, D365 will show 7 print out done, but when checking the printer, only 3 have been printed. The printer sometimes make a pause in between of 4 minutes before starting again.

Another example:

There is no synchronization between information sent by D365 to the printer.

D365 shows a number of printout done but the printer print less the number showed on D365.

We tried every possible solutions by configuring the printer and also checking internet connection. However, the issue is still pending.

Is there any other factors that might be the cause to this issue?

Among 13 clients, only one is getting the issue.

Thanking you in advance for your help.

Best regards,

Selina THOMAS

    Hi Selina,
Slow posting of packing slips - this can be a D365 server/database problem.
Print jobs not reaching the printer - this could be a Document Routing Agent problem.

The counter mismatch is not a bug, When D365 says "7 printed," it means 7 documents were rendered and placed in the cloud print queue. It has no idea whether paper came out.

The areas you can have look related to the slow posting issue:

    • Number sequences. If the packing slip or invoice number sequence is set to Continuous, postings serialise and block each other. Switching to non-continuous is often a dramatic improvement and is the single most common cause of exactly this complaint.
    • Print at posting. If the posting dialog has Print packing slip / Print invoice set to Yes, the posting transaction waits for SSRS to furnish each document before committing. Post first, print separately through print management or a batch.
    • Batch vs interactive. Bulk posting should run in batch. If they're doing it interactively from the form, they're holding a session open through every render.
    • Batch server capacity. Check whether the batch group has enough threads and whether other jobs are competing during the same window.

After checking the above mentioned area, Run this test with the client: post the packing slips with printing turned off, then print separately.

    • If posting is now fast - the bottleneck is report rendering, not the database

    • If posting is still slow - look at number sequences and batch configuration

    • If printing alone still stalls - it's purely network issue, and the D365 side is fine.

Since only 1 of 13 clients is affected, the fault is almost certainly in something local to that client.

    Thanks
