I am facing several workflow errors in D365 Finance & Operations when using a hierarchy-based assignment (Hierarchy type = Management / Position hierarchy).

My scenario is simple:

I have a top position in the organization (Position ID: 000007).

This position logically does not report to any other position.

However, workflow routing continues to fail even when the position has a worker assigned.

Here are the errors I keep getting:

Arrêté (erreur) : X++ Exception: No worker assigned to position '000007', an alternate user could not be found when using the 'flux' hierarchy. Fill the empty position with a worker or update the workflow to route to a filled position.

The screenshots mentioned in the ticket are not visible. However, based on the error message (“No worker assigned to position '000007'…”), here are the checks you should perform:

Position Hierarchy : Ensure that position 000007 is correctly linked to the hierarchy used by the workflow.

Worker Assignment : Verify that this position is not empty. If it is, assign an active worker or remove the position if it’s obsolete.

Approval Workflow : Confirm that the workflow points to the correct hierarchy and includes a fallback approver in case a position is unfilled.

These steps should help resolve the error and allow the process to continue.
