How to Show On-hand Quantity for Bundle Items Based on BOM Component Availability

We are working with bundle items, where each bundle is made up of multiple subcomponents defined using a Bill of Materials (BOM). We are looking for an out-of-the-box way (or minimally customized approach) to calculate and display the on-hand quantity for the bundle item, based on the available inventory of all its BOM components.

Use Case:

We want to:

Dynamically determine how many units of a bundle item can be assembled based on current on-hand inventory of its subcomponents.

Use this calculated bundle quantity to display available stock on retail sites or e-commerce platforms

Example Scenario:

Bundle Item: XXXX

BOM Configuration:

BOM Line 1: Item YYYY – Required Qty: 1 – On-hand Qty: 50

BOM Line 2: Item ZZZZ – Required Qty: 1 – On-hand Qty: 50

In this case, we want the system to show that bundle item XXXX has 50 units available, as both components are available in sufficient quantity to assemble 50 bundles.

Thank you

    Hi,

In Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management, calculating and displaying the on-hand quantity for a bundle item based on BOM component availability can be achieved with minimal customization. Here are a few approaches:

    1. Use the Formula Designer or BOM Calculation:

      • While standard BOM calculations are typically used for costing, you can extend them to calculate available quantities based on component stock.
      • This requires a small customization to evaluate the minimum available quantity across all BOM lines.
    2. Custom View or Report:

      • Create a custom view or Power BI report that dynamically calculates the bundle availability by checking the on-hand quantity of each component and determining the limiting factor.
    3. Retail Integration:

      • Use a batch job or Power Automate flow to periodically calculate bundle availability and push it to your retail/e-commerce platform.
    4. Third-Party Add-ons:

      • Some ISV solutions offer advanced inventory visibility and bundle management features that may suit your needs without heavy customization.

Let me know if you'd like help setting up the calculation logic or integrating it with your retail site!

    Best regards,
    Daniele

    Hi,

Can you tell us if you are using only BOM items or Kits as part of the Commerce solution? The product Inventory Visibility is designed to interact with Commerce sites. You can add an additional source and calculate the number of feasible bundle items based with custom coding.

PS. You can ignore the reply from Danny3211 as to me the part with the grey background looks like this is AI generated without checking the details.
